My kennel was first registered in 1985, when I imported 2 German Shepherds. I bred German Shepherds for many years. Then in 1994, I saw for the first time, Bernese Mountain Dogs and I never realised then that this breed, would be so....... addictive. But it was, so the search began.
Being a rare breed, there were few breeders and then I heard that Mr & Mrs Tate had just imported some Bernese from Sweden that had size, substance and also soundness. So I booked a bitch puppy, and Lakia of Estcarp, Call name Holly, soon arrived. She was all that a Bernese should be. Friendly, outgoing and above all else...Sound. Holly was the beginning of what I now have and my gratitude to the Tates will never diminish. Holly started me on the road to breeding and now a hobby for my two daughters, Nicola and Robyn who were to be my handlers at all the dogs shows. Nicola was 10 years old and Robyn, 8 when their showing career kicked off. My daughters right from their young age found that the showing of Bernese was a breeze. The Bernese opened up the world of showing like no other breed could have. Because Bernese love their owners and are so...friendly and intelligent and oh so gentle with children, my daughters became great handlers.
All our dogs are part of the family and all the pups are reared as if we were going to keep them in the house and love. Our dogs are also hip and elbow scored and the Animal Eye Specialist has had two puppies from us.
Probably the most important thing if you are looking for a Bernese is the temperament. The typical Bernese temperament, which is loving and friendly with everyone. This is something which all our dogs have.
